Month 132 – Rocky River Golf Club – 2/22/2015

After getting in January early, the brutal winter began and went well into February. After 0 possible days to golf in February, the 22nd became the target date and travel was in the forecast. Again, the entire country was experiencing cold temperatures and snow had fallen in many of the old travel destinations. Franklin, KY had snow, Pasadena, MD and Richmond, VA both were snow covered. Then plan was to head directly south into Virginia or possibly North Carolina. Quat and Nutt met at Sheetz at 5 AM on Sunday and headed south. After about 6 hours, some calls were made to courses and Rocky River Golf Club confirmed they would be open. A 12:50 tee time in the shadows of the Charlotte Motor Speedway after a pretty long drive was no match for these road warriors. The course had covered their greens during their snow so the dead grass with extremely green putting surfaces made for quite the sight. Nuttall hit 7 of 8 fairways on the front 9 and Quat hit 6 of 8. On the back, Nuttall hit 6 of 7 and Quat went 7 for 7 on the fairways. Nuttall set the new fairway record with 13 and Quat tied the old mark with 12. The combined fairways hit by 2 people in a round was previously 23 prior and that too was broke. The round was complete and a quick dinner at 222 Public House in Elkin, NC and a few Fat Tires was. Quat and Nutt were home at 1 and a day of incredible driving all around was complete. So was the next year of the streak and 132 straight months and the 11th year were in the books.

Month 131 – Grandview – 1/5/2015

2015 started off very cold, but a warm from with rain headed to Pittsburgh the 1st weekend of the year. After a full day of rain Saturday, Sunday was warm with showers in the AM. At noon, the tee time was set for 1:10. With limited daylight, we would have to hurry. Naturally, it just couldn’t go smoothly as the battery in Quat’s car died. Nuttall headed over to drive, but then a miscommunication of texts and Nuttall headed to the course. After a phone call, Nuttall turned around and the daylight was fading. We teed off right around 2 and had the course in front of us. Nuttall hit some crazy blind shots and ran away with the match. Quat nursed a sore back after a Home Alone-esque fall a few days earlier. A new calendar year had begun and the streak moved 1 month away from turning 11.

Month 130 – Grandview – 12/7/2014

Knowing what craziness December may hold, Quat and Nutt tackled the month early and had a solid plan. A noon tee time and a great battle unfolded in the match play. Tied going into 17, Quat hit a 2nd shot just off the green. Nuttall was tucked behind a tree and unleashed an amazing hook that trickled onto the green as he won the hole. Quat was unable to draw even on 18 so the post game pizza at Aiello’s was on Quat once again. Another calendar year complete.

Month 129 – Grandview – 11/23/2014

After passing on a few nice weekend dates due to schedule conflicts, Quat and Nutt once again headed towards the ultimate staple in the streak. Nuttall was the story as he shot a 72 with birdie putts on 16 and 17 that could have gotten him to even. Quat played terrible, but recovered a number of balls that he lost in June.

Month 128 – Oakland Hills (South) – 10/11/2014

Penn State Michigan weekend in Ann Arbor was lead off with a special treat. Great American, Rick D of the Michigan crew took us out to Oakland Hills. 1st class service from when we pulled in and they took our bags to the range. We hit a few balls and then headed to the Gentleman’s Lounge for lunch. We were off to the tee and paired with the Club President Mike H. Mike was a wealth of knowledge of the history of Oakland Hills and provided many great stories. Additionally, Mike lives on the 4th hole and after our tee shots on the Par 3, his wife, daughter and newest grandchild waited with a bag of beer for us.

Month 127 – Pittsburgh National (Quat) – 9/28/2014

As usual, September was a blur with the start of football and all of the fall activities. Quat went on a solo mission to Pittsburgh National the morning of 9/28/2014. After playing the 1st 6 holes solo, another solo guy Tim caught up. A Philly native who loved to talk about various Pennsylvania course made for good company. The conditions were dry and hard and in areas the ground was torn up from crows eating Grubs.

Month 126 – Mill Creek (Quat) – 8/3/2014

Quat headed to Buffalo for the 1st weekend in August. A round on Saturday with Mr. Jill at Shelrdige and then headed out to Rochester for a round with Sean Ryan after a near decade hiatus of golfing together. A nice chilly summer morning while kicking some tunes on the Bluetooth speaker. A decent front 9 and start to the back from Quat quickly fell apart on 11. An even 100 in the books and the drought of not playing with Sean came to an end.
